Description
John’s Gospel is very different from the other three. It is more about the meaning of Jesus’ life and ministry. Each chapter takes a particular event, or teaching and brings out its meaning more fully.
Many of the stories John selects are unique to his Gospel, like the changing of water into wine, Nicodemus, Samaritan woman at the well, and Lazarus. The parable of ‘the vine and the branches’, His teachings about the Holy Spirit, and many of His discussions with the Pharisees and Teachers of the Law, are only found in John.
The symbol of John’s gospel is the eagle. As an eagle soars and sees things from a greater height, so John, as he reflected in his later years, was able to throw mature light on the life and teaching of Jesus.
